So in Jan 18 our new circular banquetting tables and upholstered chairs arrived. The accompanying photograph gives an example of how they can be laid out.
With the aid of an AVDC New Homes Micro Grant the SHCA in Aug 18 have been able to replace the two sets of rotten wood doors to the rear of the centre, with gleanming new white low maitenance UPVC
The Centre had a mixture of conference tables of different heights which were most inconvinient when trying to lay out for an event or meeting. The association managed to be considered for the Tesco 'Bags of Help' programme and were succesful in securing an award which enabled the association to purchase ten new tables. All conference tables at the centre are now of the same style and height.
During the February 2020 half term and with the help of an AVDC New Homes Bonus Grant secured on our behalf by the Parish Council, all internal areas at the centre have been subject to a full redecoration.
The entrance road to the centre was potholed and badly breaking up, and the adjoining pavement had many uneven and cracked slabs. With the help of grants gratefully received from The Mercer's Company of London and the Winslow & Villages Community Board, we were able to have the entrance road completely resurfaced and the paving lifted and replaced with smooth tarmac. We also took the opportunity to create two new mobility dropped kerbs and a dedicated disabled parking bay.
During the half-term break the Community Association took the opportunity to upgrade all electrics and emergency lighting to the latest recommended standards and install a new monitored fire alarm system throughout the centre. To minimise installation and to avoid unsightly cable trunking a system employing wireless sensors and call pads was chosen. The new emergency lighting and fire alarm will be tested and logged on a weekly basis.
The original school playground area due to its poor state was unsafe to use. With grants gratefully received from the Stoke Hammond Parish Council and the Winslow & Villages Community Board, we were able to have the area completely resurfaced and laid out for car parking for centre hires. At the same time time a new gated vehicular entrance was created to gain access to the car park area.
It was felt that in order to ensure the well being of our Community Centre users that a heart defibrillator would be a valuable and essential asset, hopefully never required but there just in case. So a defibrillator suitable for both adults and children was duly purchased from London Hearts and is installed within the centre.
